Interstate vs. Local Movers

There is a big difference in licensing between interstate and local movers. Local movers are licensed by the State of Nevada, while interstate movers are licensed by the US DOT. It is illegal for a local mover to cross state lines, and likewise, it is illegal for an interstate mover NOT to cross state lines. Some movers will be licensed for both intrastate (Within Nevada) and interstate (Within US).
Make sure to choose a mover who is licensed for the move you are doing.

Terry Moving and Storage is licensed for any Interstate moves, the link above goes to our DOT license information.

Long Distance Loading Tips

Loading a trailer for an interstate move is more involved than a local move. The biggest difference is in the packing of the trailer and the amount of protection required. For a long distance move, you have to carefully arrange the furniture in the trailer, so that load shifting and rubbing is minimized. Each piece of furniture needs to be wrapped and protected with moving blankets. The load also needs to be packed floor to ceiling, so that any bumps in the road do not cause the items to shift. For a local move, the load is packed in for easy removal, head-high and not as many pads are needed. Loading yourself for a local move is fairly straightforward and easy, for an interstate move, it is best to hire professionals.
