Position Summary: Working closely with vets and the Clinic, Feline Veterinary Technicians provide medical care to the cats at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary as part of the Cat World team. <br>

Essential duties: <br>
•  Relate to caregivers and Cat World management regarding the health of the cats.<br>
•  Assist the veterinarians in feline handling and general treatment. This includes communicating with them about the cats’ medical needs and progress. <br>
•  Act as liaison between veterinarians and caregivers.<br>
•  Have knowledge of the individual cats in order to best contribute to decisions on their medical care.<br>
•  Monitor the health of the cats, including palpating bowels, performing blood glucose curves, post surgical care, wound care, simple check-ups (hydration, heart rate, pulse, respiration), general wellness checks, follow-ups at expiration of prescribed short-term medications, interim follow-ups for long-term medications, and ensuring cats are current on vaccinations.<br>
•  Perform all aspects of lab work from venipuncture and cystocentesis to blood, urine, and fecal analysis. <br>
•  Care of hospitalized animals.<br>
•  Perform chart reviews and update the treatments database.<br>
•  Schedule procedures at Happy Landings and the Clinic.<br>
•  Participate in end-of-life decisions. <br>
•  Sedate and prepare animals for surgery. <br>
•  Help monitor patients during surgery and post surgery. <br>
•  Prepare surgery packs and clean surgical equipment.<br>
•  Prepare and administer prescribed medications, both oral and injectable.<br>
•  Prepare and administer subcutaneous fluids.<br>
•  Express bladders.<br>

Required skills and experience: <br>
•  Veterinary Technician Certification or equivalent education.<br>
•  Minimum of 1 year related experience.<br>

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) is the nation’s leading Latino litigation, advocacy, and educational outreach institution.  Founded in 1968, MALDEF works to safeguard the civil rights of Latinos and empower the community to fully participate in American society.  We are currently seeking a Part Time Regional Director of 2010 Census to develop and implement a bilingual, multi-media outreach and education campaign to promote the Latino community's participation in the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of the Census decennial population count in 2010.  The Regional Census Director is responsible for dissemination of critical information to Latinos residing in Nevada and Arizona.<br>
<br>
Job Responsibilities:  In collaboration with other staff assigned to census-related programs, coordinates Census 2010 outreach, education, and media activities in Nevada and Arizona. Working with the National Census Director and media consultants, coordinates and disseminates MALDEF census promotional material within the assigned region including print, broadcast, and electronic media in English and Spanish. The Regional Census Director travels to areas outside of his/her home city with high hard-to-count scores to promote Census participation in other Western states. Communicates regularly with MALDEF census, policy and legal staff to monitor Census 2010 policy and implementation in assigned region; maintains regional database of volunteers, cooperating organizations, and governmental and media contacts; and prepares weekly and quarterly reports of activities to the National Director of Census 2010.  <br>
<br>
Requirements:   Bachelor’s Degree required.  A minimum of 2 years public speaking broadcast media (radio or television) experience is required. Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and be able to form and maintain relationships and alliances.  Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.  Must be able to handle multiple tasks and to organize and prioritize workload efficiently. The successful candidate must be able to speak Spanish with a high level of fluency.  Must have excellent public speaking abilities, and be able to articulate the importance of Latino participation in the Census 2010 to a wide variety of audiences in person, on television, on the radio and through public service announcements.  Must have excellent computer skills and be particularly adept with electronic mail, word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software.  Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with particular attention to detail and accuracy, are required.  Valid Nevada Driver License and automobile insurance required.<br>

Desired Skills:   The successful candidate will have in depth knowledge of community organizing and relationship building; knowledge of and support for MALDEF’s principles and organizational goals; knowledge of and an ability to work with print, electronic, and broadcast media; the ability to prioritize workload and to meet deadlines under pressure; the ability to perform work in a home office setting, requiring ordinary physical activity; and the ability to travel frequently by automobile or airplane as required.<br>

Compensation: This position is funded through April 30, 2010.<br>
$18.80 to $20.80 per hour.  This is a part-time telecommuting position scheduled for 20 hours per week, some evenings and weekends required.  No overtime or benefits offered. This unpaid internship is designed to show students the ins and outs of green design, construction, solar and wind energy designs in a new and growing business. Must have good people and phone skills, positive attitude, and a good eye for detail. Organization, focus and self-motivation skills are a must. . After completion of the internship there is possibility for employment.<br>

We provide free lodging for as many as 6 volunteers at a time. Volunteers staying as our guest must be willing to work for at least 1 month on a full-time basis.Transportation is provided, but volunteers are responsible for all non-work-related travel expenses (travel to and from Hilo, Hawai`i, and travel on the Big Island and neighboring islands). Structured program combining on-the-job learning and related instruction in which participants receive theoretical and practical training in a highly skilled occupation. It is career training in solar, wind power, organic gardening, green building, design, real estate and much more. In each program, volunteers work and learn under the direction of experienced instructors.<br>
Some volunteer positions require work in the field, sometimes in remote areas. For these positions, volunteers often spend 4-6 days in the field in hot, humid conditions, or sometimes in very cold, and wet weather<br>
The Intern program is an opportunity to have an internship or work experience in the areas of green building, solar energy, wind energy, organic gardening, eco-living.<br>

Specifically, MPP is working to pass a statewide ballot initiative that would tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol in Nevada, thereby ending marijuana prohibition in the state. This position will play a key role in ensuring the signature drive to place the initiative on the ballot is successful.<br>

This position is a six to ten month contract position.<br>

Responsibilities<br>

The Southern Nevada Field Coordinator will be responsible for:<br>

* Coordinating the day-to-day operation of a large portion of a statewide signature drive to place an initiative on the ballot<br>

* Recruiting, training, and managing petition circulators<br>
<br>
* Ensuring a high overall validity rate of signatures collected<br>
<br>
* Attending and running signature turn-in events, where circulators will return completed petitions<br>
<br>
* Keeping track of all signatures submitted and overseeing payments to circulators<br>
<br>
* Representing the campaign in a professional manner and ensuring circulators to do the same<br>
<br>
The Southern Nevada Field Coordinator reports to MPP-NV’s Campaign Manager.<br>

Qualifications<br>
<br>
Candidates should be highly organized, with meticulous attention to detail; get along well with a wide range of people; and be able to work weekends and occasional long hours.<br>

Experience training others or working on a signature drive or political campaign is a plus, but not required.<br>

Compensation<br>

The position begins as a six-month contract, paying $20,000 for the six-month period, with the possibility of extending the contract for an additional four months.<br>
